Love boat

30 hours by train to go up to the North remember? Well... it took me 6 days to go back down... but they were 6 amazing and fantastic days!!!! 2 days on a little speedy boat, surrounded with locals and smiles and children and warm feelings... and then, 4 crazy days on a cargo ship, 24 hours stucked on a sandbank 3 miles away only from our departure jetty, whiskey evenings with the cargo crew before the couvre-feu at 9pm, nights with big rats having a party on the deck above us, smelly squat toilets, but surtout an excellent time with... My tailor is rich

I am now in Myitkyina, in the far North of Burma. And you will think that I am some kind of a masochist but it took me 30 hours by train, on a wooden seat, to get there from Mandalay, the second largest city of the country (in comparison, 40 hours on a sleeper bus are peanuts...). Ther reason why I am here, where usually nobody bothers to come, is that there is a big festival held by the Kachin people, an ethnic group living in the North, closed to the Chinese border. I have to say that my first contact with Myitkyina was not the... [Lire la suite]

Oui, Jerome c'est moi...

A special post to Jerome for the past 10 days spent in his company. 4 lazy days in Vientiane in the best guesthouse in town...huge wooden teck house, big garden, at a walking distance from the Mekong river, breakfast is big (2 eggs otherwise Uyen is in a bad mood...), laundry, books on loan, bank service... et tout ca, for free! Jerome, tu es fantastique... ;)))And thanks for the week in Burma, I had a lot of fun! Jerome is one of the best companion I had traveled with, easy going and relax... We were a dream team, nver organised... [Lire la suite]

Burmese days

There are no other possible words. I am in love with Myanmar, and I seriously think that it is my favourite country of all South East Asia.

You know that feeling of rage and desperation? Well, got that at the travel agency in Vientiane the other day. My initial plan was to pass directly to Burma from China (saving time and energy), and then meet my friend Jerome (who is living in Laos) overthere. But his email mentioning and highlighting the idea of  some shots of B-52 in a Lao relaxing atmosphere and me being so weak and so human, I could not seriously decline... so some 40 hours of bus Kunming-VIentiane later and a 35 $ visa in hand, and we finally got to the...
