Christams break
I have been very silent lately but you cannot even imagine how good I feel at the moment... It has been 4 days that I am back in Vientiane, Laos and I am currently just doing nothing but enjoying life, the sun, sunsets on the Mekong, Lao beers and dossing around... It feels like having some holidays from my holidays! Especially when the lazyness of the Lao people is affecting you... so good! But I reckon it is a bit strange to be back here, a year after. So many things have changed. The people I knew here are all gone (except Jerome, with whom I am going to Burma soon). I have so many memories from this place, good and bad, but even the bad ones became good and funny ones (les coups de bambou et autres...;).
Bon, ces jours de glande etaient tout de meme bien merites vu les 40 heures de bus que je me suis tapee avec 35 chinois entre Kunming et Vientiane. Un moment tres epique, tres drole et tres penible a la fois. A peine montee dans le bus, c etait le grand chaos, les sacs, les cartons s'amoncellant dans tous les sens, chacun s'entassant sur sa couchette. Le grand instant fut lorsque tout le monde retira ses chaussures... Schopk! Un grand moment d'humanite et d'amour de son prochain... parce que si un chinois sent rarement bon, un chinois pieds nus ne sent jamais bon... Le reveillon de Noel s'est donc deroule dans le bus, perdu dans les routes traversant une campagne luxuriante, a boire des shots d'alcool de riz et bouffer des choses indefinissables avec mes nouveaux copains chinois de voyages. Tres drole. Moins drole cependant les 3 heures d'attente a la douane ou l'entierete du bus fut retourne et tous ces jaunes malades dans le bus a vomir leurs tripes pendant 35 heures...
There is only 3 km between the Chinese and the Lao borders, but it is amazing how much you can feel the difference, instantely. If Chinese people are not very easy to approach from first sights, Lao are very easy going. The moment I crossed the border, I was welcome with a very warm 'sabaideeeee!', 'where are you from?', 'ooooh, very good tennis in Belgium!!!'. Totally different from the general Chinese coldness... It is good to be back in Laos.
